What About Bob?

Bouncin’ Bobby Briggs on the ramp at Memphis International Airport KMEM

Bob Briggs has flown over 19,300 hours in his lifetime, as an aviator for the Army and Navy Reserves, a Captain for both Flying Tigers & FedEx and a corporate pilot. Fun fact: The FAA Airmen Certification Records show 109 PIC type ratings, for which he holds the Guinness World Record.

Since 2019, Bob has flown dozens of flights transporting seriously ill patients at no charge from hospitals around the country. Most of the patient flights on his Citation CJ1 are to and from the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for appointments and treatments. For his efforts, Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic named him Tennessee Pilot of the Year for 2020 and 2021. Bob flies for nine separate compassion organizations.

Phil Dixon, FAA Safety Team program manager, presents Bob with the Master Pilot Award.

In November 2021, Bob received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award which recognizes pilots who have practiced safe flight operations continuously for 50 or more years. And, to commemorate his 50th anniversary of flying, Briggs rented a Cessna 172 and flew to every airport in the state of Iowa, where he grew up and first learned to fly. He repeated the challenge celebrated 25 years before.

As a kid, Bob was enamored with various modes of transportation. His dad was a navigator on the B-24 in World War II. His flight training began with a birthday gift from his parents. Bob says, “I have remained a student of aviation since.”

In addition to SIC training, Bob is available for pilot service, mentoring and other advanced flight training.
